Monday Morning Musings

It's fair entry day today. And I've decided to enter some cookies, most likely against my better judgement as the fair judges do not like my cookies as a general rule. Especially Chocolate Chip. So I'm going to try Oatmeal and Peanut Butter and maybe even Chocolate Chip. I've finished the Oatmeal (they spread much more than they usually do ... must be the humidity)

and the peanut butter

and the Chocolate Chip are in the oven.

I'm also making cookies for the Cookies of the Month guys and gal and for Jim Parry's Endurance Challenge (door prizes). For the fair entries, I need to pick 3 and bring them on a 6" paper plate to the fairgrounds sometime between 8 AM and 8 PM today. They need to be as uniform as possible for maximum points. Wish me luck!!

Also running TC10: Mary Chestolowski. There's going to be quite a contingent from Rochester. Whoo hoo! What a fun day. Running one of the two races that day that I can think of at this moment: Woo, Melby, O'Leary, Martin, Chestolowski, Palmer, Heil, Duncan, Hemenway, Distad (I think), Strain (?), Saxman, Bellrichard, ... (Send me an email if you're running and I'll keep a list, so we can carpool, meet up afterwards, etc.) I'm thinking of running the Mankato Marathon on October 23. :-)

Eric and I are going to head over to Mankato tomorrow morning to attend Vikings training camp. Yahoo!! We also will be attending the Sept. 26 vs. Detroit (I know ... they're pretty bad) game with the Bellrichards.

Yesterday's workout: 44 mile bike ride followed by a swim at the Y. It was a toasty day, to be sure, but a good ride.

From Jim Parry: Almost there! My 17 hour treadmill run to benefit the Rochester Area Family Y Strong Kids Campaign is next Tuesday, August 3. Funds raised will be used to provide scholarships for those families who can not afford to have their kids participate in Y programs. Some of you have expressed an interest in running or walking on the second treadmill that will be set up in the lobby. I looked at the schedule for it today and it is filling up. Call the Y at 287-2260 if you would like to schedule a time to run/walk with me. Tere will also be an hourly prize drawing for those who show up and contribute to this worthwhile cause.
Hope to see you there!

From Joey Keillor: On Wednesday, we are scheduled to have Jason Lehmkhule as our guest speaker. Jason was 9th at Boston Marathon this spring, which is just his latest entry on a long list of fast times and top finishes in big races. (They are meeting at 7:00 Wednesday at Parkwood Hills.)

Jean Murray asked me to pass this along: Greetings! Last year Mayo Clinic participated in the corporate team sponsorship for the 2009 Twin Cities Marathon. This year, Mayo Clinic will be once again participating in the corporate team sponsorship. It is our goal to learn of as many Mayo Clinic employees planning to run the marathon and encourage their participation on the corporate team. There is not a fee for you to join the corporate team and you will remain responsible for the registration cost and coordination of your individual event. Corporate team amenities include access to additional awards, VIP tents at the end of the race including enhanced food and beverages and massages, as well as a singlet (dry-fit tank top) provided by Mayo Clinic. This is a great opportunity for Mayo Clinic to improve our brand recognition and awareness in the Twin Cities area. The corporate team membership is required to be Mayo Clinic employees per the Twin Cities Marathon guidelines. If spouses, significant others, or other family members or friends are running we may be able to provide singlets prior to race day to those individuals if there is a supply remaining. Unfortunately they will not have access to the special tents, food, massages, etc. unless they are Mayo Clinic employees. If you have interest in participating in the corporate team event this year, please contact Tina Cronk (cronk.tina@mayo.edu ) by August 6, 2010. When indicating your interest in participating on the corporate team, please also indicate your preferred shirt size for the singlet. I will share with you the details for obtaining the shirt closer to race day.

From my friend and fellow foodie Margo: Join us in the Library foyer area for our next Second Saturday Sale on August, 14th from 10:00am - 1:00pm. This month: COOKBOOKS, COOKBOOKS, COOKBOOKS! Spend $20 and get a free apron or oven mitts!

Enough for now. Happy Monday!
