A Slow News Day

It was wonderful to see the sun ALL DAY today. And nice, seasonably warm temps. I took the opportunity to go for a little bike ride. Just out to Salem Corners, but it felt good to be on the bike again. Speaking of which, I haven't bought one yet. I really have to get that off my Things To Do list ... SOON!!

Here is a link to the November Running Room eMagazine. They have a new jacket ... The Run Jacket. $69.99. Here is the women's version ...

and the men's version.

From Paul Christian:
Next stop, finish line! Train slows IA marathoners
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The leaders in the Des Moines Marathon could see the finish line — they just had to wait a bit.

A passing train forced the two leaders in the 26.2-mile race to wait for about a minute Sunday just 400 meters, or about a quarter mile, from the finish line.

When the train finally passed, Kenyan Simon Sawe sprinted to a win in 2 hours, 24 minutes, 50 seconds. He won $3,000.

Race director Chris Burch says it was an unfortunate circumstance beyond the control of race organizers. Burch said Sundays are usually slow days for the Iowa Interstate Railroad through downtown Des Moines.

He said Monday that organizers won’t change the route and will work harder to communicate with the railroad about the race for next year’s event.

From Jim Benike (and I also heard this on the radio):
Ohio man, two others die during Detroit marathon
Monday, October 19, 2009 2:54 AM
Associated Press

DETROIT—Three runners, including a man from Ohio, died during the Detroit marathon yesterday, organizers said.

Daniel Langdon, 36, of Laingsburg, Mich., collapsed between the 11- and 12-mile markers, said Rich Harshbarger, vice president of consumer marketing for the Detroit Media Partnership.

Rick Brown, 65, of Marietta, Ohio, collapsed near where Langdon went down, and 26-year-old Jon Fenlon of Waterford, Mich., collapsed just after finishing the half-marathon in 1:53:37, Harshbarger said.

The temperature was about 28 degrees when the marathon started and had risen to 41 degrees by 10 a.m.

Panera has a new bagel in October ... the Pink Ribbon bagel. Funds from each bagel sold go towards breast cancer causes. I had one the other day and it's quite good. Dried cherries, dried cranberries, cherry chips, vanilla, brown sugar and honey.

I found the following ?s a while back in Amber's blog. I thought they were kind of interesting. I'll post a couple now ... a couple later.

I give you money and send you into the grocery store to pick up 5 items. You can only pick one thing from the following departments… what is it?

1. Produce : bananas (for my oatmeal ... see #5)
2. Bakery : whole wheat bread (a nice crunchy baguette would be a close second)
3. Meat: chicken
4. Dairy : Land O'Lakes unsalted butter (so I can bake cookies, of course!)
5. Dry goods : Quaker Old Fashioned Rolled Oats

Let’s say we’re heading out for a weekend getaway. You’re only allowed to bring 3 articles of clothing with you. So, what’s in your bag?

1. Jeans
2. T-shirt
3. Running clothes (I guess that counts as more than one ???)

So, what 4 things do you find yourself doing every single day, and if you didn’t get to do, you probably wouldn’t be in the best mood?

1. Exercising
2. Cooking/baking
3. Talking with friends
4. Blogging!!

Well, now maybe you know a little more about me. One of these days I'll resurrect the Bakers Dozen Questions for you readers to answer, and me to post. It's been a while.

Quote for the day: "Friendship is a cozy shelter from life's rainy days."

Here's to friends ... :-)
