It's a Spring Classic

It's almost time for the ... Spring Classic! And Jean's famous monster cookies. The weather looks to be very nice this year! Maybe a little breezy, but no rain this year for a change. It'll be a fun way to start the weekend. I'm running the 15K. There's a 5K as well.

Thank you to: Marilee Hardyman, Jean Murray, Jim Mason, Laura Lenz, Abby Rowekamp, Mary Wernstrom, Judy Weller for your help assembling the RTC News last night. We got 'er done in an hour ... and you save me hours and hours, and saved my back. :-)

I have a pair of bike rollers and a bike repair stand to give away. They're not at my house ... they're at a friend's house. But if you're interested in them, give me a holler. BTW: Bike rollers are not for the faint of heart. The whole bike rests on the rollers and you have to concentrate to stay on them. A wind trainer it isn't ...

Got this link from Tish Torchia. Son Mike, a very talented runner for the U of M, is going to be participating in "400 miles of kayaking, biking, swimming, rollerskiing, and running across Minnesota to endow college scholarships for Peruvian orphans". Check it out!

From Jim Mason: A link to state-specific running discussion boards on Runners' World. Thanks, Jim!

From Mike Schmitt: "The Virgin London Marathon 2010 entry ballot has been completed after two days and 16 hours - beating the previous record by over 15 days. In total, over 120,000 runners have been accepted." Wow ... 120K entries in less than 3 days. Unreal.

From Running Room: Buy a Garmin Forerunner 405, 405 with HRM or 405 CX with HRM and get $50 back with mail-in rebate. Offer good thru June 30. Rebate forms are at the store. Limit 5 rebates per customer. (Now, ... who needs 5 Garmins???)

Happy May Birthdays to the following RTC members: Maria Adamson, Michele Buri, Sue Clemens, Mark Freund, Chris Frye, Joseph Gardner, Kevin Gerber, Angie Haugen, Richard Heil, Mike Holmes, Lary Klein, Sarah Larson, Mike LaValle, Doris Lin, Peter Martin, Erin Moore, Katherine Moore, Ray Murray, Paul Nelsestuen, Larry Pederson, Susan Powers, Claire Schreiber, Lance Snow, Cathy Torgerson, Julie (VanderSchaaf) Reiland, Lynn Williams, Michael Yaszemski. Enjoy your special day!

Yesterday, I was leaving the library and a guy rode by on a bike. This is good. Smoking a cigarette. Not so good ... but the guy can multi-task, I guess.

Finally got out in the garden today. I planted broccoli, cabbage, kohlrabi, potatoes and got 5 rows of pea fencing in. I plan to plant the peas tomorrow afternoon. Looks to be a very nice weekend for working outdoors.

Well, that's it for today. Thanks for stopping by!!

Congratulations on your win Renee! Oh how I missed those cookies this year :( They are worth running for, that's for sure. Your bike/cigarette story reminded me of a few weeks ago we were in Manhattan and I saw a guy ride his bike past us and his shirt read, "you are what you eat". I thought, "he must be a fairly healthy guy...", then he parked his bike and smoked a cigarette. Cracked me up.
