Journeys

Life is a journey. Sometimes the road is straight. Sometimes it's filled with twists and turns, roadblocks and dead ends. I heard about this very inspirational YouTube video the other day. It's certainly worth the 5 minutes it takes to watch.

My day brought a 7.2 mile morning run (s-l-o-w) and about 4 miles of walking. I'm a bit sore (hamstring attachment point) tonight so as I type this I'm sitting on an ice pack.

Today we bid adieu to summer and now welcome the sights and smells of autumn, one of my favorite times of year. I like the beautiful colors of the leaves on the trees, the crunch of leaves underfoot, the cool/crisp mornings and evenings. We will also have a full moon early Thursday morning.

For those running a TCM race on Saturday, be it the marathon or 10-miler, I think it's gate 232 (upstairs) at the dome where the Rochester runners have been meeting for many, many years. I haven't decided if I will go up to watch and socialize or if I will just stay home. I guess I have a week to decide.

Supper this evening was DELISH. Salmon, jasmine brown rice and stuffed acorn squash.

My usual morning breakfast ... oatmeal. But today, with a peach on top. : )

I also made a pan of bars and a few cookies. Life is good. : )

Good night.

Some Measure of Success

Well, I logged about 12 miles today. About half running, half walking. But I feel good about it. It was slow, and not without some aches and pains, but way more than I thought I was capable of. So I'm happy about it. Also took a dip in the pool. ;-) Will try running again tomorrow.

My friend Kathy Carlson wrote about her Ironman Wisconsin experience on the Du Tri Saint Cloud website. What a great story. I am so very proud of her accomplishment. 13:52:51 was her finish time. First Ironman. Absolutely fantastic.

I got some pretty sweet black Pikolinos boots today. Totally, ummm .... groovy. :-)

Delicious lunch ... some spectacular strawberries, yogurt and some crumbled Trader Joe's Crispy Oatmeal Cookies on top.

Running opportunites this week ... progressive run in the morning at O'Leary's, Team R.E.D. on Thursday (inappropriate T-shirt night), Saturday long run at the RAC. Check the Team R.E.D. blog for thescoop, the whole scoop and nothing but the scoop.

Twins just clinched the division after the White Sox lost. Hip, hip, hooray!! Go TWINS!!

Talk to you soon. Good night.

Same Old, Same Old

Not much to report. About 6 or 7 miles of walking today. I might attempt another run in the morning. We'll see. Otherwise, I'm going to walk again.

Toe update: The nail has about detached from the toe, but is still hanging on. If you're squeamish, don't look!!

Dinner was a salad, roasted red pepper and tomato soup with some roasted peppers and onions thrown in (Trader Joe's) and sauteed Brussels sprouts with pecans, craising, balsamic vinegar, etc. Totally yum!!

From Jim Mason: Local runner Nancy Marquette is featured on Runners' World It says she now lives in Owatonna, but I think she used to live in Roch. We used to race against each other in local races. She's a nice gal. Thanks for the link Jim.

From Tom O': Hey all.. check out the blog at Byron Team RED for some reminders of upcoming workouts these next couple days. You'll also find an update on what to bring to Team R.E.D. Thursday (that's in addition to your inappropriate t-shirt!). -- routes should go up on the blog in the next day or so ----

If you raced this weekend, please send me a picture, or a note on how it went, so I can share that with others.. always fun to know what people have been achieving in this fantastic sport!

Some upcoming races this weekend include In Yan Teopa 10 Mile Trail Run, as well as Purple Stride Rochester.. details of each can be found at rochestertrackclub.com .. Additionally, Stephanie, a friend of R.E.D. shared this race.. looks like fun for you sweethearts out there.. http://www.austinsweetheart5k.org/

Looks like there was a great turnout for the Mayo Open CC race. Results are on the RTC website .

Good Monday Night Football game.

Well ...

... I ran/walked 5.32 miles this morning but I think I'm kind of paying the price for it. My hammie has been sore since. :-( I have to say that it felt wonderful to be running/jogging/slogging, though. I guess I'll have to hit the icing and stretching and strengthening program and go on from here.

I was just looking through the Team R.E.D. website and Tom O' has a post about some events coming up in November including a new run at the Gamehaven Scout Camp and a couple of other fun trail'ish runs taking place that month. Here's a link to that post.

Congrats Tom Woo for Running a 3:15 at Fox Cities today. I WISH!!

Vikings ... we need a win here ... :-( If they lose to the Lions next week, when we are at the dome, I am going to be majorly bummed.

Good night. :-)

Hey, there ...

Yes, I am still alive. :-) I'm just taking some down time. I've not exercised at all in several days and I'm going to try a little running in the morning and I hope it goes well. In my movements in everyday life, it (my hamstring) is definitely feeling better.

The Mayo Open CC race was held on Thursday evening. I didn't run (of course) and haven't seen the results yet, but hope the turnout was good and everyone was happy with their race. Tom O' said the turnout for Team R.E.D. was very good and they overwhelmed the Wicked Moose with the goingson after the race.

Breakfast Runs

Rochester: On October 9, the Off-Season Striders will resume activity. It's the week following TCM.  John asked me if I'd like to host a breakfast run at my house the first week ... you betcha!! I did last season (both fall and winter). Stay tuned for more info. The menu will likely be the same as it was then ... egg bake, steel cut oats, fruit, baked goods.

Jean has graciously agreed to bring coffee again which helps out a lot. There's nothing I like better than a house full of friends and the opportunity to prepare food for all of them. You're welcome to come whether you choose to run/walk or not.

St. Cloud: Ron Stock turned 50 earlier in September and I turn 50 mid-November. A while back he asked if I was interested in a joint breakfast/birthday celebration sometime between our birthdays. You betcha!! So a while back, we agreed on October 30 and it's still a go. I believe the plan is to host it at Ron and Bonnie's, but you River Runner bleaders ... stay tuned for more info both here and on the River Runner website and in the River Runner October newsletter.

The magic number is 6. GO TWINS!! They're playing well and I'm hoping it continues.

Eric and I are going to the Vikings game on 9/26 with Tod and Meg and I look forward to that as well. They play the Lions and I hope they don't embarass themselves with a loss. :-(

I haven't heard any baby news yet, but a new (female) Schmitt family member should be arriving pretty soon. I'll give you the scoop as soon as I hear something. I'm sure Jessica, Mike and Benjamin are eagerly awaiting the baby's arrival. Mike said they're not sharing the name yet, but it is for sure a little girl. The first in a long time in the Schmitt family.

Well, that's about it. Quote for the day: "A pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity. An optimist sees opportunity in every difficulty." --Sir Winston Churchill

Good Morning :-)

Happy Wednesday! Just a quick little post today.

Tomorrow, Team R.E.D. is going to be completely different. They're going to run the Mayo Open 5K Cross Country race at Eastwood Golf Course. Details on the RTC website. Then afterwards, they're heading to the Wicked Moose for some social time. Complete details on Byron Team R.E.D. website. Tom O' has all the scoop. The race is free and part of the RTC Grand Prix series. More about that on the RTC website as well.

I'm continuing to stretch, strengthen and ice and we'll just see how it goes. And swim. And bike. And do Stairmaster. I'll be fine. But I won't be running TC10 which is disappointing as it's my very favorite race. But last year I ran the race of my life there so anything I'd pull out of the bag this year would be a disappointment. There's always next year.

I was on Run Minnesota the other day and noticed that my little blog is one of 5 on their "blognation" list. I'm honored.

Totally useless information: I happened to notice that the distribution of answers for my last poll form a perfect bell curve. :-) That's the mathemetician in me ...

Made another loaf of that delicious Blueberry Bread the other day. The recipe is on my recipe blog. I didn't have enough fresh blueberries so I used a can of wild blueberries. Turned out fine. It's delish.

I forgot ...

... it's the second Tuesday of the month which means it's an opportunity for socializing, no running required. The default location is Beetles on 2nd St SW, 6:00 or after. Whenever you get there ...
