Happy Cinco de Mayo!

For those of Mexican heritage, enjoy your celebrations!

It's a beauty of a day today. We're going to work on getting the fence up around the garden then it's time for some heavy duty planting: peas (shell and sugar snap), potatoes, onions, lettuce, broccoli. I'm a little behind the game, but the weather and my schedule haven't meshed very well yet this spring.

Just went out to the mailbox and in it was my Boston results card. What a way to turn the day into a real downer. The 5Ks from 25K on each took about 50 minutes. Bummer of a day that was. Oh, well. At least I didn't get picked up by the cowcatcher on the course sweep ... ;-)

More Flying Pig info:
From Pete Schommer: There are heros all around us. Thank goodness.
From an email from the marthon folk: "For those of you who were at the start line Sunday morning, we thank you for your patience as the full marathon route had to be changed at the last minute because of a structure fire along the final stretch of the Marathon route. The three-alarm fire sparked about an hour and a half before the scheduled start of the Marathon, and three houses involved in the fire were destroyed. The Marathon staff thanks the Cincinnati Police and Fire departments for acting so quickly to re-route the Marathon runners, with the safety of the runners, the fire fighters and the residents at the forefront. Because of the change in the route, the course will be re-certified. According to Marathon Executive Director Iris Simpson-Bush, after the new distance is measured, "we can deduct runner's times by determining their pace and then apply it to a 26.2-mile distance. Then we will check with USATF to get it recertified." " Glad I don't have to deal with that one as a race director.
Also, I wore a skirt for the 10K. Judy Weller is smiling, I just know it ...

One last thing: I forgot to bring hair gel to Cinci so my hair was totally out of control in those photos (if you can't view the slideshow, just click on the View All Photos tab). An out-of-control mass of frizzy curls. And it needs cutting. And highlighting. Yadda, yadda, yadda.

From Paul Thomford: Marathon Runner Catches a Thief Happened right here in MN. He's not only fast, he's brave.

Tom O'Shaughnessy found a canoe partner for the Lutefisk Tri through my blog. Whoo hoo!

If your membership is current, you should have received the May issue of RTC News. Thank you to Laura Lenz (coordinator and hostess), Angie Haugen, Kit Hawkins, Sonja Kranz, Larry Pederson. They put together, and Larry and Laura mailed, 331 newsletters. If you didn't get one, perhaps it's time to renew! We don't want to lose you. If you're not yet a member, consider joining. The RTC just purchased some adobe software for me that will allow me to create .pdfs of the newsletter to post on the member's only section of the site. The photos will be in color, which will be a lot better. Some of them reproduce pretty dark. No one submitted any guesses for the 'Who Is It?' or 'Where Is It?' contests as of this writing.

It was a cookie day today (Monster Cookies). There to pick up their cookies: Jim Benike, Dan Edwards, Jim Martinson. Missing: Gary Malat, K.C. Reed, Jim Postier, Ross Hamernik, Mark Wernstrom. They're the guys that bought one set of 'Cookies of the Month for 2008' from the online auction in December.

Back for Mother's Day: White Chocolate Cherry Bread at Great Harvest. Yum. I've had it and it's delicious.

Some of you have asked about my knee. Still not 100%. Just doesn't feel right. Nothing is really point tender, but it's not right yet. Someday, I hope it will be. Patience, patience, it's a virtue. I know. ;-)

Happy Birthday in May to the following RTC members: Michele Buri, Mark Freund, Chris Frye, Joe Gardner, Angie Haugen, Richard Heil, Mike Holmes, Lary Klein, Sarah Larson, Mike LaValle, Doris Lin, Katherine Moore, Ray Murray, Janet Murray, Paul Nelsestuen, Larry Pederson, Nancy Price, Beverly Taylor, Cathy Torgerson, Julie VanderSchaaf, Lynn Williams, Jeff Woody, Michael Yaszemski, Roxanne Bartsch.

I ordered this running dress ...

... from Skirt Sports . Very cute. You, of course, need to wear some kind of short underneath. I'm undecided if I'll keep it. Depends if I can drop a few pounds. It's also a bit short...and I'm a bit too tall.
