Trifecta, redux

Well, I'd heard rumblings that they wanted to interview Lionel for the Post-Bulletin, and they got a photo on Saturday ...

(Post-Bulletin photo) ... and a terrific photo it is. Then, this evening I see he made it to the front page of the paper. Super! They couldn't have picked a nicer guy to profile. What a wonderful souvenir for Lionel to take back to Singapore! Here's the video that appeared on KTTC, our local NBC affiliate. Fun. More than 600 people took the plunge yesterday. A new record. And it was a whole lot of fun. ;o)

The results for the Stair Climb and Half Marathon have been posted. Thank you again for participating in these events which raised money for charity! I incorrectly posted Chris Chen's time as 2:28 for the stair climb on Saturday. It was actually 2:21. WOW!! He was FLYING!!

Another correction: Winterfest Chair Genise Thompson was the winner of the one night stay at Broadway Residence & Suites Trifecta prize. Enjoy!

For kicks and giggles, here are my splits for the half: 7:36, 7:51, 7:36, 7:54, 7:51, 7:48, 7:41, 7:29, 7:27, 7:08 (?!), 7:25, 7:29, 8:33 (wheels came off! Cramps kicked in).

Well, today I bought a swim cap and goggles for our (Judy Weller and me) little swim in the morning. I am anxious to get started, but I'm also feeling s-o-o-o-o-o-o apprehensive. Shaun, bless his heart, deserves a bonus batch of cookies for this!! A full report tomorrow. Maybe even a picture. HA!!

March 1, the US Indoor Track & Field championships will be on ESPN2 at 4:00 PM. Check your local listings to be sure. There is a Track & Field TV schedule on the USATF website.

Well, when there's nothing else for me to post, I post a recipe. So here you go! It's part leavened, part quick bread. Very good. It's the loaf on the right. The one on the left is banana bread. I'll save that recipe for another day. :o)

Cinnamon Chip Bread

3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 c. granulated sugar
2 tsp. instant yeast
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. salt
1 cup warm milk
1/4 cup butter or margarine, melted
1 large egg
1 tsp. baking powder
1 cup cinnamon chips
Cinnamon-sugar for topping

In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, yeast, cinnamon and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, butter or margarine, and egg. Combine the wet and dry ingredients, beating till smooth. let the batter rest at room temperature for 1 hour, covered, then stir in the baking powder and cinnamon chips.

Pour the batter into an 8 1/2 x 4 1/2 loaf pan. Sprinkle the top with the cinnamon-sugar. Bake the bread in a 350 oven for 35 to 40 minutes, until it tests done; a cake tester inserted into the center will come out clean. Remove the bread from the oven, let it rest in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer it from the pan to a wire rack to cool completely.

This is from a little booklet called "Good Stuff" that a fellow Y member gave me when I used to work in the Fitness Center and posted quotes for the day on the whiteboard. It's called ...

The Secret to Happiness

The secret to happiness and well-being is no mystery. All it takes is the ability to do the following:

Forget.
Apologize.
Admit errors.
Avoid mistakes.
Listen to advice.
Keep your temper.
Shoulder the blame.
Make the best of things.
Maintain high standards.
Think first and act accordingly.
Put the needs of others before your own.
Forgive.

Until next time.
