Fun!!

We are gonna have some fun tomorrow night at Team R.E.D.!! Actually, the girls have already had some fun ... tonight at my house. It was fun spending time together... planning, scheming, laughing ... while doing something other than running. Look for some fun pix after tomorrow's gathering.

Thank you to everyone who has volunteered, and continues to volunteer, to help at Fetzer on Saturday. You guys are the best. Last year was such a wonderful year as a race director ... totally stressless. And this year is shaping up to be the same. Last year the weather was perfect, the volunteers were perfect, ... everthing just worked. I was able to stand around at the finish line talking and cheering. I've always thought that if the race director really has all his/her ducks in a row, they should be able to run in their own race.

I've got a little presence on the MDRA (Minnesota Distance Runners Association) scene this week: my blog is the featured blog on Blognation and the Fetzer is on the most recent race roundup. Pretty cool. Thanks for the publicity, guys. The Fetzer also go a mention in last night's Post-Bulletin. Thank you, Paul.

Have you noticed how much wind we've had lately? I decided to Google the windiest cities and guess what? Rochester is the fourth windiest city in the U.S. behind Blue Hill Observatory, MA, Dodge City, KS, and Amarillo, TX. It's also third on the list of cities with the most weather variety. More weather facts here.

I'm going to be the "guest runner" on Tuesday morning from 8:30 to 9:00 for the Jefferson Joggers, a group of 150 or so kids at Jefferson Elementary school who are starting to train for the Med-City Kids' Marathon. I'm supposed to get the kids motivated and excited. Sounds fun!!

Emily Franck and her students prepared the granola bar recipe that I sent her last week and they enjoyed them today as a snack. Emily said there were a few deviations from the recipe directions, but it sounds like nothing that would have made them inedible. Here are a few of the students:

Thanks for the pic, Emily!  Emily was here with the gals tonight. No pictures. Yet ... :-)

It sounds like Jim Mason is organizing some weekly trail running at Essex Park on Tuesdays at 6:00 pm. It's a great idea. Trail running is a lot of fun, and more work than running straight road miles. And it teaches you to lift your feet. I'm a shuffle runner and tend to trip easily.

Check out the recent posts at Team R.E.D. They've been nominated for an award, and Tom is organizing a breakfast fundraiser for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation on April 17. Lots more info on Tom's blog.

Happy April birthdays to RTC members: James Andrews, Daniel Assad, Tracy Becker (milestone), Tammy Beniak, Chris Church, Susan Clark, Richard Devine, Cory Felderman, Pete Gilman, Joe Grande, Kate Holcomb, Roxanne Holst, Timothy Kaufmann, Joy Larson, Mark McClees (milestone), Chris McCormick, John Modry, Kate Morizio, Travis Nickel, James (or Kerry!) Rosane (milestone), Dawn Schroeder, Terry Severson, Ken Syring, Roger Taylor, Peter Tebben. Happy Birthday!!

Lastly ... my morning workout was the usual 5:15 course ... minus a few miles. Lisa and I cut it short. So there. :-)

Good night. Tomorrow is a(nother) busy day.

You cut the training run short? That is fantastic!
